I have always been keen on languages as they have helped me to fulfil my lifelong passion - travelling. After graduating from English and Russian philology, I decided to put the knowledge I had gained into practice and travelled abroad. I lived in several countries both in Europe and overseas during the following ten years which gave me the chance to further develop my language skills.

Spending almost two years in England and the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, I fell in love with British nature, history and the distinct sense of humour of the local people, and I still enjoy travelling to various parts of the UK as a tour leader from time to time. Another opportunity to familiarize myself with the English-speaking environment came with an offer to collaborate on a book about Las Vegas written by Czech TV and radio presenter and journalist Luboš Xaver Veselý. Much to my surprise, I have grown fond of this somewhat artificial and odd city over the course of time.

The Caribbean and Southeast Asia were two more stops on my journey before I came back to Prague and became a full-time English teacher. I would like my students to see the language they learn as something more than just a mere tool of communication during their holiday or one of the requirements for getting a better job. I try to provide a deeper insight into the culture, way of life and mentality of people living in the countries the language is spoken. Using authentic materials and natural "real-life" language helps me to achieve it.

Besides teaching and travelling I enjoy sport, long distance running and swimming in particular. And I am an enthusiastic student of Indonesian language and occasional tour leader in Prague and elsewhere.

K jazykům jsem měl vždy velmi blízko, protože mi pomáhaly naplňovat mou velkou vášeň – cestování. Po absolvování anglické a ruské filologie na filozofické fakultě jsem se rozhodl zúročit a zároveň zlepšit nabyté znalosti v zahraničí a v následujících deseti letech se mým domovem stalo hned několik zemí po celé Evropě i mimo ni.

Po téměř dvouletém pobytu v Anglii a na Normanských ostrovech jsem si zamiloval přírodu a historii Spojeného království i svérázný humor jeho obyvatel a dodnes se na ostrovy čas od času vracím coby průvodce poznávacích zájezdů. Další velkou příležitostí ke sblížení se s anglofonním světem byla spolupráce na knize o Las Vegas českého moderátora a novináře Luboše Xavera Veselého. Bizarní a do značné míry umělé město jsem si, k mému velkému překvapení, nakonec oblíbil.

Po dalších zastávkách v Karibiku a jihovýchodní Asii jsem se vrátil do Prahy, kde nyní pracuji jako lektor angličtiny. Rád bych, aby mí studenti viděli ve znalosti jazyka víc, než jen možnost domluvit se na dovolené nebo cestu k získání nového zaměstnání. Snažím se jim proto zprostředkovat i vhled do mentality lidí dané země, kulturních souvislostí a reálií každodenního života. Rád proto do výuky zapojuji autentické materiály nebo hovorový jazyk.

Kromě cestování a angličtiny mě baví vytrvalostní běh a plavání, jsem nadšeným studentem indonéštiny a příležitostně pracuji jako průvodce Prahou ale i mimo Českou republiku.
