Roman (Brno)

Hello,
I'm Roman and I am a teacher from the beautiful Moravian city of Brno.
I deliberately didn't call myself an English teacher as although English has been a huge part of my life for a very long time, I only started teaching it a few years ago. Let's start at the beginning. In my elementary and secondary school times I was one of those "nerds" that were pushed into studying by their parents and I spent a lot of time reading books. Not just textbooks, fortunately, but still... And it was at some time during my high school studies that I discovered I had a talent for making people understand. I could explain literally anything I knew and since I was kind of a bookworm, I knew a lot. Well, Socrates would probably not be happy but what can you do, I was very young and certainly not wise enough to understand :) So when the time came for me to decide what to do with my life, it was quite an easy choice and I enrolled at Masaryk university for a high-school teaching programme of Physics and Computer Science. After graduating I taught at several secondary schools in Brno one or both my "primary" subjects.
And how did I find my way to teaching English? Well, as I have already said, English language has been a very important part of my life for a long time. I studied it a little at elementary school (back then only a few select schools taught foreign languages other than Russian) then continued to one Brno high school at Slovanské náměstí that promised almost a bilingual type of English studies (though it never fully came to that). And even at university I came into a lot of contact with the language as much of the information about Computer science we had to work with was only available in English. And also- one thing I haven't mentioned yet - I loved playing computer games and Czech localizations in the 90's and early 00's were very very bad. So even after I finished my studies, I continued using English and as I learned more and more (mainly from movies, books, and the games), I completely fell in love with it. And about 7 years ago, when I had to leave my favourite school, I was at a crossroads. It was then I decided I wanted a change. I got a CPE certificate from one of our Brno language schools and started also teaching English. Now I am a full-time private tutor, I teach Maths, Physics, English and occasionally even Computer Science.
In my free time I still play some computer games and watch movies. At university I also very much fell in love with sports, particularly basketball and volleyball (I'm 196 cm or 6'5" tall which helps) and even though my knees now give me a hard time, I still try to continue to be active. And even though I have not married yet, I still love meeting new people and I am certainly looking forward to meeting you, too.
